A wildly fun project for Artful Education in Portland, Oregon. Sales of the calendar raised money for art and music education in the Portland schools.

Thirteen images were created on-location in the Portland area and, in some cases, involved extensive retouching in Photoshop.

  • This is a pastiche on the original poster “Expose Yourself to Art” done in Portland a few decades ago.

    This image has the last three mayors of Portland, Oregon in the image, Tom Potter, Bud Clark, and Vera Katz. Note the rolled-up pant-legs under the coats - this was for the Portland Public Schools, after all!

  • That's Tom Potter's (the 50th mayor of Portland) grand-daughter directing the City Council.

    No instruments were harmed (or played well!) during the making of this image.

  • Katie Harman-Ebner, Miss America 2002. This image is a composite of 5 different images. The day we photographed Katie on the boat, we lost the sun at the critical moment, so we photographed her head and shoulders in the studio later and composited them together with the rest of the image in Photoshop.

  • Darcelle, of Darcelles XV, a female impersonator who has been performing in the same venue for over 38 years in Portland.

    And Tres Shannon of the world-famous Voodoo Doughnuts.

  • Greg Oden, the star Blazer who, sadly, suffered a spate of injuries.

  • Jerry Glanville, coach of the PSU football team and NASCAR racer on the weekends.

  • The late John Callahan, cartoonist. John's biting humor was a staple of Oregon's newspaper scene for decades.

  • The Multnomah County Commissioners, up to their usual tricks.

    This was photographed in their offices at SE 5th and Hawthorne. By using the right lighting I obscured the copy machine and cubicles behind them.

  • Pennie (Lane) Trumbull, whose life was portrayed by Kate Hudson in the movie “Almost Famous”

  • Portland's Chief of Police, Rosie Sizer relaxing with the classic snack of police officers worldwide.

  • Storm Large, Rock singer

  • Susan Castillo, Oregon Superintendent of Education.

  • Matt Zaffino, weatherman, and Brenda Braxton, anchor, KGW TV in Portland. Wow! It was a very windy day in Portland! No, actually, I had them each hang off of a pull-up bar for the photographic session and then did just a “touch” of Photoshop work on the final image. And that's my cat BikBik in the upper right. No cats, trash-cans or weathermen were harmed during the making of this image.
